About the Tomales Bay Youth Center
The Tomales Bay Youth Center (TBYC) opened its doors for after-school and weekend programs in the fall of 2011. Initiated, sponsored, and largely constructed by the West Marin Lion’s Club, the TBYC is a diverse youth-driven program offering a safe, supervised space for West Marin students to gather and engage in positive group activities.
The TBYC operates a recreational center, “The Lounge,” on the West Marin School campus in Point Reyes Station. It was designed with the students’ input and features a variety of game tables, computers, a movie projector, Kereoke machine, a dedicated art space and a kitchen. With the use of the school grounds and the community gymnasium, students are able to participate in a wide variety of sports, games and community building activities in partnership with the three youth centers in the West Marin.
The TBYC also plans field trips and outings that include hiking, fishing, sailing, beach bonfires, bowling, trips to San Francisco, sports events and more.
Roughly 50% of the TBYC participants come from families with yearly incomes below the poverty level, 60% come from families that are partly or exclusively Spanish speaking, and 30% of students live in extremely remote areas. The TBYC is an essential service that helps build community and creates youth leaders.
We need your support to continue to provide youth services. Donations and scholarships allow for all young people to participate in our program. Thank you for helping us create bright futures for the youth of West Marin!
